Good to know

Questions, answered.

Book your stay

How many people does it sleep?

Two guests, in a queen bed with hotel-grade white bedding.

Is the sauna really private?

Yes. You book your session windows and the sauna is only yours during them. Outside your sessions, it is shared with your host.

Is the sauna included in the price?

Yes. Every stay includes your sauna sessions, a robe, a sauna hat and towels.

Is there a cold plunge?

Not a tub, yet. Take a cold shower, run a cold bath with ice from the freezer, or in winter, lie back in the snow. That one is our favourite.

How do I book the sauna?

After you book, your confirmation includes a link to pick your private sauna windows. Up to two 2 hour windows a day.

How do I check in?

Keyless. Your door code arrives in your Airbnb messages before your stay.

Can I work from the suite?

Yes. A rolling desk and chair live in the closet, the Wi-Fi is fibre, and downtown is 25 minutes. Ask ahead if you want a second monitor.

Is the gear in the photos included?

No. The skis, boards and clubs are ours, staged to show how much fits in the gear room. Bring your own, or ask us about rentals nearby.

Does the couch pull out?

It does, into a lounge for movies, games and post-sauna naps. The suite sleeps two, in the queen bed.

How far are the mountains?

Canmore is about an hour away and Banff about an hour and fifteen. YYC airport is about 30 minutes around Stoney Trail.

Where exactly is Nordic Reset?

Rockland Park, on the northwest edge of Calgary, Alberta, three minutes on foot from Bearspaw Reservoir and ten minutes from WinSport and the Crowfoot and Tuscany LRT stations. The suite has its own entrance at the side of the house, with free street parking out front.

Is it a real Finnish-style sauna?

It is a Henley outdoor cedar sauna with an electric stove and stones. It heats to 90°C in about 30 minutes, you ladle water on the stones for löyly, and there are birch, eucalyptus and citrus scents to add. Robes and wool sauna hats are provided.

Is Nordic Reset good for a ski trip?

Yes. WinSport is 10 minutes for night skiing, Nakiska about an hour, Sunshine Village about 1 hour 30 and Lake Louise about 1 hour 50. There is a gear room for skis and boards and the sauna is waiting when you get back.

Can I book the sauna without staying overnight?

Not yet. Right now the sauna is reserved for overnight guests. A locals' sauna session is something we are looking at for the future.

How do I book?

On Airbnb, at airbnb.ca/h/nordicresetcalgary. Two-night minimum. The City of Calgary short-term rental licence number is BL308391.

In plain words

A private sauna suite in Calgary.

Nordic Reset is a private sauna suite in Rockland Park, on the northwest edge of Calgary, Alberta. It is a legal one-bedroom secondary suite with its own entrance, a queen bed, a full kitchen, in-suite laundry and a gear room, and it comes with something no hotel in the city offers: a private outdoor cedar sauna, reserved for you by the window and included in every stay.

The sauna is a Henley outdoor cedar sauna with an electric stove and stones. It heats to 90°C in about 30 minutes, you ladle water on the stones for steam (löyly, the Finns call it), and there are birch, eucalyptus and citrus scents to add. After a round you take a cold shower, run a cold bath with ice from the freezer, or in winter lie back in the snow, then rest in the reading chair with a robe on. Heat, cold, rest, repeat. Robes, wool sauna hats and towels are provided.

It is built for two kinds of trip. The mountain trip: Canmore is about an hour away, Banff an hour and fifteen, WinSport ten minutes, Nakiska an hour, Sunshine Village an hour and a half, Lake Louise just under two, and the suite is the quiet first night before the drive or the recovery night after it. The work trip: downtown Calgary is 25 minutes, YYC airport 30, there is a rolling desk by the window and fibre Wi-Fi, and the sauna is waiting at the end of the last call.

Nordic Reset sleeps two, is licensed by the City of Calgary as a short-term rental (BL308391), and is booked through Airbnb with a two-night minimum. Every room carries a Nordic word, Sisu, Fika, Kylpy, Ro and Samvær, and a short card explaining it. The host grew up with a wood-fired sauna at the lake, with Finnish and Swedish grandparents, and spent years playing hockey in Europe. The tagline is the whole idea: the reset before the mountains, and the exhale after them.
